A portrait of Ramsden hangs in the borough's town hall. He served as High Sheriff of Lancashire from 1873-1874. Ramsden was married in 1853 to Hannah Mary Edwards from Wallasey, Cheshire. He was appointed Honorary Secretary of Barrow lifeboat in 1865.
