This box features an incredibly dense, hand-painted gilt floral pattern over a deep black lacquer. While it follows the form of a traditional European snuff box, the "all-over" gold leaf decoration is highly characteristic of the Kashmiri or Anglo-Indian export trade that flourished during the British Raj.
