We believe Colin must have been 21 years old when he sketched John Gielgud as Macbeth. The subject, John Gielgud playing Macbeth in a particularly cursed production. This was 1949, I know this, as I have that completed watercolour and it is dated; so 7, years after this sketch of John Gielgud.
