Mawson was a renowned Geologist and Antarctic explorer. Born in the United Kingdom but moved to Australia at a very young age. The letter is hand signed in ink by Douglas Mawson (1882-1958). It is typewritten on headed paper from the British Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition of 1929-1931.
