Engraved on the underside is 'J.G. COOKE. 101st Regt.'. Made toward the latter part of the 19th century, this brass cased green card dial prismatic compass with folding sight vane is inscribed 'MAJOR HUTCHINSONS IMPROVED 186' and is signed 'ELLIOTT BROS, STRAND, LONDON' on the dial around the pivot.
