Kew Gardens botanist Isaac Burkill to William Botting Hemsley Pearson Nicholson

£99.50

This is a letter from Isaac Henry Burkill from between 1897/1901 when he was at Kew Gardens, presumably c1899 when he had becomne Principal Assistant. It is written to William Botting Hemsley, and is an invitation for him to replace the botanist and horticulturist George Nicholson ("I feared G Nicholsons absence here this morning that he is not up to the work" - Nicholson had been at Kew since 1873 and was Curator but in poor health, and would retire in 1901).
