A beautiful WW1 Howitzer Shell Case made into a Mess Dinner Gong. The shell was produced in 1910 and is, I think a howitzer shell. There many markings on the shell base, which I am sure mean many things, including the date of manufacture and where it was made. It would be interesting to some detective, to see where and when this shell was fired!!! The shell case is 4.5inches in diameter and 14.5 inches long. The base is mahogany and the framing holding the shell is of brass. Total height including the stand is 25.5 inches and the mahogany base is 16 inches x 9 inches. I am selling this as I have downsized and its a little too grand in my new home. Makes a wonderful ringing when tapped!
