Original issue, full-sized Naval General Service Medal with clasp 'Persian Gulf 1909-1914' correctly named: 232631 G.W. HILL, A.B. H.M.S. SWIFTSURE. Condition GVF. George William Hill, born 20 April 1887 Birkenhead, Cheshire, enlisted as Boy 2nd class on 20 April 1905. Served on a range of ships until 1919 when he transferred to Royal Fleet Reserve, including Hecla, Dido, Swiftsure, Marmora, Blenheim and others. Mentioned in Despatches for evacuation of Gallipoli in Dec 1915-Jan 1916 - papers confirm this (ADM188/412/232631), and listed in London Gazette15th May 1916, page 4834. Also entitled to a WW1 trio.
