An unused French Mle 1874 ‘Boite a Graisse’ oil / cleaning tin issued with the Chassepot needle fire service rifle and the later Gras centre fires. Part of the issue cleaning kit used by French soldiers from the mid 1860’s onwards these practical tins saw issue up to the years before the outbreak of the Great War and no doubt many saw service in the trenches.
