Sir Martin Ryle (born 27 September 1918 in Brighton; died 14 October 1984 in Cambridge) was a British radio astronomer who developed a novel radio telescope system and used it to precisely determine the position of faint radio sources. For this achievement, he and Antony Hewish were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1974.
