It does not detract from the gorgeous look of this set but I’m sure a more professional repair could be made. I am reliably told by a Discworld and Clarecraft expert (my wife) that only 30 of each of the 2 styles of chess boards were ever made (Earth and this one) so it is a very rare piece indeed.
