"The Salute" one of a group of military themed satirical prints produced by James Gilray in 1796 / 1797. The image takes a critical look at the state of preparedness of yhe British army when facing likely invasion threat from revolutionary France. The work suggests some issues - General Thomas Davies takes the salute but fails to notice the officer salutes using the wrong arm. The standard bearer carries a flag which is neither a regimental colour or the King's colour. Soldier three appears half asleep. Professionally framed. (w) in frame 19" 48.5 cm (h) in frame 15" 38cm
