The package was designed by Soviet artists and caricaturist group Kukryniksy (Kupriyanov, Krylov and Nikolai Sokolov). Those artists were responsible for the majority of anti-Hitler caricature in USSR. Usually they drew a caricature and added a small rhyme subscript, like what's presented on the package. These Pea Soup Rations were issued beginning in 1939 during the Winter War with Finland.
