This is a beautiful, authentic piece of early 20th-century militaria and photographic history. As shown in image.png, the front of the large domed medallion features a sepia-toned portrait of a World War I era soldier in full uniform. These portrait plaques were traditionally made for families of servicemen as keepsakes. Maker's Mark & Backing The reverse of the plaque has a solid black finish (image_3.png). Stamped clearly into the center of the backing is the original maker’s mark, which reads: "COLUMBIA MEDALLION STUDIOS CHICAGO" (visible in detail in image_2.png).
