It has been pasted down onto card. Ainsworth's embossed crest has been taken from the back of the envelope and stuck to the front. W Harrison Ainsworth (1805-1882) was a writer of historical novels (The Tower of London, The Lancashire Witches, Dick Turpin etc), and close friend of Charles Dickens.
