This listing is for a WW1 British Pattern 1903 entrenching tool pick + shovel found on the Somme battlefield in France. Each soldier was issued with one for the construction and maintenance of trenches, shell scraps, dugouts, etc. Carried on their webbing, it used a long wooden handle which has since rotted away, leaving behind the steel part seen here. This is in a nicely cleaned relic condition with all rust removed and the metal treated with WD40 to prevent further rusting - see photos! Dispatched with Royal Mail Tracked 48.
