A tough Platoon Sergeant Major with the Canadian Fusiliers Mont-Royal, Dumais was captured during the August 1942 Dieppe Raid. He escaped a German prisoner-of-war train, reached Marseille, and used an earlier network (the Pat O'Leary Line) to escape to England.
