Thereafter he served aboard HMS Warspite 1932-33, HMS Hawkins 1933-34. During 1942 he served aboard HMS Furious and took part in Operation Pedestal for the relief of Malta. Later in the year he was involved in the planning for Operation Torch - the invasion of North Africa - and Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily.
