This is the original rubber face frame from the RAF’s rare Day-Night flying training mask — no lenses or filters included. Issued to aircrew to train their eyes for the brutal switch between bright daylight and pitch-black night flying, this soft rubber mask was the missing link in instrument and night-vision training. Stores Ref. 22C/862, complete with its original Air Ministry marked box, and the rubber is still surprisingly supple after eighty years. A genuine and seldom-seen piece of Battle of Britain and Bomber Command training equipment
