The Event: 1937 Coronation. They were crowned on May 12, 1937, following the unexpected abdication of George VI's brother, Edward VIII, in late 1936. The front of the handle features the profile portraits of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (later known as the Queen Mother), topped by a royal crown and the year 1937.
