WW1 Ottoman/Turkish Prisoner of War Handmade Beaded Snake d.1919

£295

Here’s the 2nd of two…… WW1 Ottoman/Turkish Prisoner of War Handmade Beaded Snake d.1919 Crochet beaded snakes were the most popular of the beaded souvenirs created in the prisoner of war Ottoman camps, as snakes were a symbol of good luck in parts of Southeast Europe, so the prisoner of war snakes could have had a symbolic importance for their makers. This particular one measures 150cm long and is in good condition with the odd bead loss and tail damage, commensurate with its age. Its coloured beads are still quite vibrant with the underbelly sewn with the words “Turkish Prisoner 1919”. Local delivery, U.K & international shipping available with collections welcome too Thanks for viewing
